When global innovation, brand development, advertising, and marketing services agency GERTRUDE, INC. relocated the agency’s HQ to Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, they built a new creative confine in a landmark building turned creative professionals mecca. GERTRUDE’s Experiential & Branded Architecture division RAYE was tapped for the space renovation. RAYE transformed the loading dock of the historical Viviano Bros. Macaroni Factory into the agency’s industrial meets mid-century modern global HQ.
Founder, Chief Creative Officer Otis D. Gibson. and President Heather Knapp, led the design of the new office space—an intoxicating blend of industrial mid-century modern with steam-punk style that lives and breathes the GERTRUDE, OZ MFG. COMPANY, and RAYE brands.
The work space is an open, “innovation gallery” that showcases the agency’s work and striking visual identity, while highlighting the building’s artistic atmosphere; exposed brick walls, surface mounted mechanics, and custom considerations. Imaginative use of renewed and reclaimed materials and structures add warmth to an industrial framework and underscore the agency’s disciplined design craftsmanship.
