OZ & RAYE TAKE DESIGN OFF THE RAILS
GERTRUDE, along with OZ & RAYE, transformed retired CTA Car No. 2238 into a premium gallery and activation space called “22Thirty8 Off The Rails.”
For many years those who lived in Chicago navigated the city in a 2200 Series stainless steel train car. The first of their kind, the iconic railcars serviced the CTA Blue Line from 1969-2013, creating a streamlined travel standard between the suburbs and every part of the city. Only 150 of these train cars were ever made; just ten remain.
Upon moving GERTRUDE, INC.’s global HQ to a creative professionals mecca in the heart of Chicago’s vibrant Pilsen neighborhood, the agency glimpsed an exceptional structure in the building’s parking lot begging to be resurrected—one of the final surviving cars from the 2200 Series built in 1967; retired CTA Train Car No. 2238.
GERTRUDE’s Experiential + Branded Architecture division RAYE, along with Design + Digital division OZ MFG. COMPANY conceived and built “22Thirty8 Off The Rails,” a premium branded showroom perfectly suited to creative events and activities, including a rotating exhibit of global artists commissioned to paint an exterior side of the train car.
